Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, Philippines

What is your favorite reef or dive site?

Tubbataha contains extensive reefs and breathtaking perpendicular walls and is home to a vast amount of marine creatures. Being in the heart of the coral triangle, there is no shortage of diversity. Each dive is a unique adventure and you just never know what you’re going to be treated with. You can see a whale shark, the biggest fish in the sea, to a little tiny sea horse all in the same dive. Truly a gem that every Filipino can be proud of.

Turtle

What is your favorite reef creature?

My heart will never stop skipping a beat when I see a turtle underwater. Not only are they a symbol for longevity and endurance but they also play a vital role in the ecosystem. These creatures help maintain the natural balance of fragile marine ecosystems ensuring healthy diversity. Sadly, nearly all species of sea turtles are classified as endangered and sightings underwater are now few and far between."

Tell us about your passion for the ocean and how you protect it.

"Despite the fact that the ocean regulates weather, produces half of the oxygen or that it is 70% of the earth, we seem to take it for granted. Being a scuba diver and just a lover of the sea, there are several things I’ve done to try to do my part to protect it.

(1) Think before you purchase – we are now presented with several alternatives which are less harmful to our environment. We all can do our part, something as simple as bringing our own reusable cup when buying our favorite Coffee Frappuccino…. Also, just SKIP THE STRAW!

(2) Educate yourself – ignorance is truly not an excuse when doing harm to our environment. So many wonderful documentaries and stories are out there for you to enjoy.

(3) Look, Update and Share – Social media holds very special powers in today’s world. Following relevant organizations and sharing important information with your friends is a very simple way of making a difference!!!"
